Frequently Asked Questions
What is CivicRadar?
CivicRadar is a civic engagement platform that transforms complex government actions into personalized insights. It tracks bills, executive orders, regulations, and court decisions across all three branches of government, using AI to explain how each one affects you personally.
How does CivicRadar track government actions?
CivicRadar automatically ingests data from official government APIs including Congress.gov for federal bills, the Federal Register for executive orders and regulations, CourtListener for court decisions, and OpenStates for state legislature activity. New data is pulled multiple times per day.
What data sources does CivicRadar use?
We use four primary official data sources: Congress.gov API (federal bills, representatives, and voting records), the Federal Register (executive orders, final rules, proposed rules, and agency notices), CourtListener (Supreme Court and federal circuit court decisions), and OpenStates (state legislature bills and representatives).
Is CivicRadar politically biased?
No. CivicRadar is strictly nonpartisan. Our AI summaries are generated with explicit instructions to avoid political bias and focus only on factual explanations of what each government action does, who it affects, and what would change. We show bills from both parties equally.
How does the AI summarize bills?
CivicRadar uses Claude, an AI assistant by Anthropic, to generate plain-English summaries of every bill and government action. The AI is instructed to be nonpartisan and to focus on explaining what the legislation does, who it affects, and what would change — in language any adult citizen can understand.
Is my data private and secure?
Yes. Your profile data is protected by row-level security in our database, meaning only you can access your information. We only send minimal data (city, state, topics) to our AI for personalization — never your email, name, or other identifying information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How much does CivicRadar cost?
CivicRadar is completely free during our beta period. All features — including AI summaries, personalized bill matching, representative profiles, and notifications — are available at no cost. Premium plans with additional features will be announced after beta, with exclusive pricing for early users.
What states are covered?
CivicRadar covers all 50 states for federal legislation and representatives. For state-level bills, we currently support 12 states with the most users including Pennsylvania, California, New York, Texas, Florida, and others. We are expanding state coverage based on user demand.
