CivicRadar uses artificial intelligence to help make government actions more accessible and understandable. This page explains how we use AI, what its limitations are, and how you can verify the information we provide.

1. What AI Is Used For

CivicRadar uses AI for the following features:

  • Bill Summaries: Plain-English explanations of legislation, executive orders, regulations, and court decisions
  • Personalized Impact Analysis: How a government action might affect you based on your location, interests, and profile
  • National Impact Analysis: How a government action affects the country as a whole, including economic impact and affected populations
  • Topic Classification: Automatically categorizing bills by subject area when official classifications are unavailable

2. AI Provider & Data Handling

AI features are powered by Anthropic Claude. When generating summaries and analyses, we send the following to the AI:

  • Bill text, title, and status (public government data)
  • For personalized analysis: your state, topics of interest, and city — no personally identifiable information (no name, email, or account ID)

Your privacy is protected:We never send your name, email address, or any identifying information to the AI. Only anonymized profile attributes (like “Pennsylvania” and “healthcare, education”) are used for personalization.

3. Accuracy & Limitations

AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations.

Always verify important information with official government sources. Every government action on CivicRadar links directly to its official source document.

Specific limitations include:

  • Summaries may oversimplify complex legislative language
  • Impact analyses are estimates based on general patterns, not predictions of specific outcomes
  • The AI may not capture the most recent amendments or changes to a bill
  • Legal and regulatory nuances may be lost in plain-English translation

4. Not Legal or Financial Advice

Nothing on CivicRadar constitutes legal, financial, tax, or professional advice. AI-generated summaries and impact analyses are provided for informational and educational purposes only. For decisions that may have legal or financial consequences, consult a qualified professional.

5. Bias & Fairness

We instruct our AI to be nonpartisan and avoid political bias in all summaries and analyses. However, AI systems may inadvertently reflect biases present in their training data. We continuously monitor and refine our prompts to minimize bias.

If you notice content that appears biased, inaccurate, or misleading, please report it to us so we can investigate and improve.

6. Human Review

AI summaries and impact analyses are not reviewed by humans before publication. They are generated automatically to provide timely information about government actions. We continuously work to improve accuracy through prompt engineering, testing, and user feedback.

7. Original Sources

Every government action on CivicRadar links to its official source for verification:

We encourage all users to consult these original sources when making decisions based on government actions.

8. Report Issues

If you find an AI-generated summary or analysis that is inaccurate, biased, or misleading, please report it to civicradar.io@gmail.com. Include the bill or action in question and a description of the issue. Your feedback helps us improve.
